Science Subjects: The Recurring Patterns
JAMB examiners are consistent. The same clusters of topics appear in almost every sitting. Knowing them in advance is a legitimate scoring advantage.
Biology
Expect at least two questions on photosynthesis and respiration every year. Genetics (Mendelian inheritance, blood groups) is another constant. Cell division — mitosis and meiosis — appears in roughly 60% of past papers. Learn to draw and label diagrams quickly even though UTME is objective: the visual understanding makes elimination faster.
Chemistry
Periodic table trends, mole calculations, and electrolysis are the three anchors. Students who master mole calculations alone typically gain 4-6 marks they previously dropped. Organic chemistry (hydrocarbons, functional groups) has been growing as a share of questions since 2022.
Physics
Mechanics — motion, forces, energy — accounts for around 35% of Physics questions. Waves and optics follow. Electricity (Ohm's Law, series and parallel circuits) is asked every year without exception. Spend the most time on topics with the longest question history.
The one-month plan
With 30 days to go, stop reading new material. Run 40 objective questions per day across your subjects. Review every wrong answer. Simulate full exam conditions twice a week. Sleep well the three nights before the exam.
