Five Habits That Change Everything
WAEC Mathematics rewards consistency far more than raw talent. Students who score A1 are rarely the ones who cram the night before — they are the ones who practise a little every day.
1. Drill past questions by topic, not by year
Most students work through past papers year by year. The smarter move is to pull every question ever set on Simultaneous Equations, work through them in one sitting, and notice the two or three patterns WAEC always returns to.
2. Time yourself on every set
You have roughly 90 seconds per objective question. Students who never practise under time pressure consistently run out of time on the real exam.
3. Review wrong answers twice
The first review — right after the attempt — shows you what you got wrong. The second review — 48 hours later — shows you whether you actually learned it or just remembered the answer.
4. Do not skip the theory section
The WAEC essay questions award partial marks. A well-structured attempt that is partly correct can earn 6 of 10 marks. A blank page earns zero. Always attempt every question.
5. Use adaptive practice in the final month
In your last four weeks, stop practising topics you already know. Focus entirely on your weak areas. ApexSession's Pro plan identifies those topics automatically and sends you daily drills targeting exactly them.
